Sandwich, founded in 1637, is the oldest town on Cape Cod, and its village center has some of the oldest houses in Massachusetts. That history shapes exterior work here: anything visible from Route 6A or in the village goes through the Old King's Highway historic review, and the committee cares about siding material, roof color and trim profiles. South of Route 6 the picture is different, with large Forestdale and South Sandwich subdivisions built from the 1980s onward that are now due for their first big exterior replacements.
